However, Back Tap has a unique advantage: it can trigger <strong>Shortcuts<\/strong>. This allows it to run automations that would normally require digging through menus or swiping down the Control Center, actions that are often too slow when you need privacy immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"back-tap-solve-privacy-problem\">The Privacy Problem Back Tap Can Solve Instantly<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We have all been in situations where you&#8217;re viewing sensitive emails, photos, or banking details in public, and then you realize the person standing over you is reading your screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fumbling to open the <strong>Control Center<\/strong> to lower brightness or enable <strong>Do Not Disturb <\/strong>takes 3 &#8211; 4 seconds and draws attention to what you are doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A subtle triple-tap on the back of your phone will instantly dim the screen brightness to 0%; switch the system to Dark Mode, making it harder to read from angles; pause any playing media; and activate a restrictive privacy Focus Mode to hide incoming notifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"build-instant-privacy-mode\">Building an Instant Privacy Mode With Shortcuts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To build this mode, you first need to create the automation recipe that your phone will run. Open the <strong>Shortcuts<\/strong> app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, tap the <strong>+ icon<\/strong> in the top right to create a new shortcut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery aligncenter tap the <strong>Play button<\/strong> at the bottom right. Your screen should go dark and silent immediately. If it runs correctly, you\u2019re ready to map it to Back Tap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"privacy-focus-mode\">Building the Privacy Focus Mode<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Simply turning on Do Not Disturb isn&#8217;t enough. If your screen is at 0% brightness in a dark room or when Attention-Aware features are on, a bright white notification banner from an app like WhatsApp can still reveal information. You need to configure a Focus mode that <a href=\"https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/silence-notifications-iphone\/\">suppresses these notification banners<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To start, go to <strong>Settings <strong>\u2192<\/strong> Focus<\/strong>. You can use the standard <strong>Do Not Disturb<\/strong> or tap <strong>+<\/strong> to create a custom <strong>Privacy<\/strong> focus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you select a new or existing focus mode, tap <strong>Options<\/strong> and toggle <strong>On<\/strong> the switch for <strong>Dim Lock Screen<\/strong>. This helps keep your sensitive content hidden even if you accidentally raise the brightness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"mapping-privacy-mode-back-tap\">Mapping Privacy Mode to Back Tap<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you&#8217;ve laid the groundwork, you need to connect it to Back Tap. Go to <strong>Settings <strong><strong>\u2192<\/strong><\/strong> Accessibility <strong><strong>\u2192<\/strong><\/strong> Touch<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scroll to the bottom and select <strong>Back Tap<\/strong>. You don&#8217;t want your screen to go dark randomly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scroll down to the <strong>Shortcuts<\/strong> section of the list. However, if you feel you will have no problems double-tapping or triple-tapping, then you should do this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since your screen is now at 0% brightness, <a href=\"https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/hard-reset-iphone-ipad\/\">resetting your phone&#8217;s settings<\/a> can be difficult, especially outdoors. You most likely need a button to restore your phone to normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Open <strong>Shortcuts<\/strong> and create a new shortcut called <strong>Reset<\/strong>.
