Like most other people, I mainly use the platform to coordinate with friends and guildmates during games, so many of these features felt like vulnerabilities rather than perks. To fix this, I adjusted a few key settings to boost my privacy without sacrificing the usability I rely on for my gaming sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n<nav class=\"content-toc-wrapper relative lazyblock-toc-196Ft2 wp-block-lazyblock-toc\" aria-label=\"Table of Contents\"><div id=\"content-toc-header\" class=\"content-toc-header flex cursor-pointer items-center justify-between\">\n                <span class=\"text-sm font-semibold\">Table of Contents<\/span>\n                <span class=\"toc-caret\"><svg viewBox=\"0 0 24 24\" class=\"chevron\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\"><use xlink:href=\"#icon-chevron\"><\/use><\/svg><\/span>\n            <\/div><div class=\"content-toc hidden w-full\"><div class=\"toc\"><ul class=\"toc-content font-semibold\"><li><a href=\"#discord-data\" class=\"toc-link block mb-6\">Stop Discord from Collecting my Data<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#record-voice\" class=\"toc-link block mb-6\">Prevent Others from Recording my Voice<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#connected-apps\" class=\"toc-link block mb-6\">Stop Tracking via Connected Apps<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#hide-activity\" class=\"toc-link block mb-6\">Hide My Activity From Other Users<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#stop-friend-requests\" class=\"toc-link block mb-6\">Stop Strangers from Sending Friend Requests<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div><\/nav>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"discord-data\">Stop Discord from Collecting my Data<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/configure-privacy-options-windows-10\/\">Telemetry<\/a> is the first thing I disable in every app. Not only do I find tracking my usage behavior creepy, but I also don&#8217;t trust companies with my data, as <a href=\"https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/protect-against-f5-hack\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/protect-against-f5-hack\/\">they get hacked all the time<\/a>. So I keep data sharing limited to essential data required for the app function. Discord tracks your activity to improve its services and even shares it with third parties to improve its Quests recommendations. If you don&#8217;t heavily use Discord Quests, you can safely disable telemetry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on the Gear icon at the bottom of Discord to access <strong>User Settings<\/strong>. Here, move to the <strong>Data &amp; Privacy<\/strong> section to disable the following options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use data to improve Discord<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use my Discord activity to personalize Sponsored Content<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use third-party data to personalize Sponsored Content<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"359\" src=\"https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/disable-discord-telemetry-800x359.png\" alt=\"Disabing Discord data collection features\" class=\"wp-image-859202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/disable-discord-telemetry-800x359.png 800w, https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/disable-discord-telemetry-400x180.png 400w, https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/disable-discord-telemetry.png 1281w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also disable the <strong>Use data to personalize my Discord Experience<\/strong> option if you want. This one does impact your experience directly, as you won&#8217;t see personalized suggestions in the Active Now and Discover tabs. I personally don&#8217;t mind this minor downside as I don&#8217;t actively depend on Discord suggestions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"record-voice\">Prevent Others from Recording my Voice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When on call, I definitely don&#8217;t want my voice recorded randomly when I am just having fun and may say stuff I don&#8217;t want publicized. While I can&#8217;t stop people from recording the coms using third-party tools, I can definitely disable it for the <strong>Clips<\/strong> feature in Discord that most Discord users use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also disable it if you want to prevent others from recording your voice without consent. Go to the same <strong>Data &amp; Privacy<\/strong> option again and disable the <strong>Avoid my voice to be recorded in Clips<\/strong> toggle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"283\" src=\"https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/disable-voice-recording-800x283.png\" alt=\"Disabling Voice Recording in Discord Clips\" class=\"wp-image-859204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/disable-voice-recording-800x283.png 800w, https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/disable-voice-recording-400x141.png 400w, https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/disable-voice-recording.png 971w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Afterward, your voice will be muted in all Clips recorded by others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"connected-apps\">Stop Tracking via Connected Apps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Discord offers powerful third-party app integration, but they also reveal way too much information about you. Many of these connections make your personal accounts public, like Reddit, X, or Facebook. This can be a huge problem as it lets bots scrape your account and strangers targeting you personally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, I have connected my Reddit account for server verification, but I don&#8217;t want random people to know my Reddit username.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I recommend you to avoid connecting accounts if possible to avoid both Discord tracking you across platforms and strangers cross-platform stalking you. If you must connect accounts, disable their visibility on your profile instead. Unless it&#8217;s an app that must display information on the profile to function, like Spotify.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To do so, open <strong>User Settings<\/strong> and move to the <strong>Connections<\/strong> section. While useful, I find it privacy invasive, as everyone can see exactly what games I play, which can possibly influence interactions. If you don&#8217;t depend on other users joining you in-game using your activity, you should disable it to improve privacy on Discord (and <a href=\"https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/reduce-discords-high-ram-usage-windows\/\">reduce its RAM usage as well<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to the <strong>Activity Privacy<\/strong> section in <strong>User Settings<\/strong> and disable the <strong>Share my activity<\/strong> toggle. If you don&#8217;t want to block your friends from seeing your activity, select <strong>Do not share<\/strong> under <strong>Server | Share With<\/strong> section. Now only your friends will see your status and the servers you individually allow to share with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"226\" src=\"https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/disable-activity-sharing-discord-800x226.png\" alt=\"Disabling Activity Sharing in Discord\" class=\"wp-image-859200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/disable-activity-sharing-discord-800x226.png 800w, https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/disable-activity-sharing-discord-400x113.png 400w, https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/disable-activity-sharing-discord.png 1273w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"stop-friend-requests\">Stop Strangers from Sending Friend Requests<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Discord is full of scams and information-scraping bots that scan large <a href=\"https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/set-up-discord-server\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/maketecheasier.com\/set-up-discord-server\/\">Discord servers<\/a> and mass-send friend requests to find targets. If you want to minimize the risk of getting a bot that may steal your information and use it for nefarious purposes, you should disable friend requests from complete strangers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In most cases, you&#8217;ll only receive friend requests from people on mutual servers. The only time I face an issue with this setting is when I find someone outside of Discord to add. However, you can circumvent this by adding them yourself instead of sharing your tag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Move to <strong>Content &amp; Social<\/strong> in <strong>User Settings<\/strong>.
